Despite of many worldclass players and huge media support England has always performed relatively poorly in world cup matches.The english team is full of stars at front as well as back but thier world cup campagin has always ended in disappoiting node recent being exit from world cup 2002 after losing to brazil(2-1).

History:
England is participating in the World Cup for the eleventh time. 1950: reliminary round, 1954: Quarter-finals, 1958: Preliminary round, 1962: Quarter-finals, 1966: World Champions, 1970: Quarter-finals, 1982: Second round, 1986: Quarter-finals, 1990: Fourth place, 1998: Round of 16, 2002: Quarter-finals, Since the glory of 1966, however, the best result they have in the competition was to reaching the semi-finals in 1990, where they lost on penalties to West Germany.

England are always expected to do well but it must not be forgotten that in 10 World Cup tournaments, England could only win the title once and that was when it was host nation in 1966.
England's most recent big achievement was reaching the semi-finals in 1990 in Italy, where it lost against Germany in a penalty shootout.
